Makeda Morris was born in Tennessee in 1995, but spent a majority of her life on the island of Oahu. Education was always Makeda’s strong suit. Her dedication awarded her a spot on the JumpStart program, allowing her an early start on her college courses. With this honor, she decided to pursue a music business degree.
Growing up, Makeda had always been in a musical atmosphere; some of her first memories are of her mother taking her to jazz halls or watching her sister perform various instruments at concerts. As she grew older, she became more interested in music. Following her sister’s footsteps, she learned to play the drums, keyboard, and saxophone, but was never passionate about playing music, more so listening and critiquing it.
Though Makeda finishes her JumpStart program with her high school graduation in May 2013, she intends to continue her education and achieve an associates degree in music business then pursue further education outside of Hawaii. With the MELE program as the start of her college education, Makeda hopes to prepare herself for a career in tour management or music journalism.
